Sasol New Signatures (Late post)

By Coco

There is nothing more you can achieve that is higher than playing part or witnessing history in the making, I am more then honoured to have been there to witness what I call 'chaining day' which is a 'street' term meaning award and I know it sounds "Hip".

Thursday morning, I woke up and got into the swing of my daily routine of bathing and yada yada, anyway I changed my outfit a couple of times wondering who would win the war - me or the weather, finally picked an outfit and asked 'pops' how do I look to which he replied "average" but what he means to say is dapper but we're working on that.

I rushed of into town, through and around it, looking for a taxi to Rosebank to meet up with Marina [I was certain she was upset] so the taxi drops me off right at Sasol HQ and as I walked to the reception counter for registration and the ladies asked for my name and reason why I am there. I then told to them the reason. They asked for my ID number and I told them what it was and they tilt their heads to get a good look at me (I'm handsome but that's besides the point). Baffled by my age they told me how proud they are of me to be attending such events at my age. In the back of my mind I'm thinking..[dankie Marina].
And so I wait and while I wait for her I begin to.. Hey let me know if I'm losing you here[giggles].

But as most of you know I have a deep affinity for creativity, the work awarded to the artists at Sasol was by far the closest definition of that - creativity - ''creation'' through ''activity'' see? Below I will briefly give you a visual (to some extent) explaination of what went down at Pretoria Art Museum.

Nelmarie du Preez - Solo Exhibition 2015

A connection between mankind and technology, Nelmarie links the two through means of documented or recorded performances that displays the growth in which technology has provided in human growth.

Mosa Anita Kaiser - In living water
[One of the Merit Award winners] at first I thought these were paintings, a 'tango for two' [an expression I made up] which deals with the reflection of a photographers perspective of the picture he/she takes and the mirror response of the photograph. She brought in people to studio and poured water over them to see their reaction to the water to get each individual's reaction to it.
She further goes on explain the metaphor of water and its spiritual effect - so to speak.

Heidi Janice Meilke

Victor Kuster -Enthusiasm Percieve

Ntobeko Lesley Mjijwa - Sho Baraka

Tumi from the volume.

Bonga Gwadu- Mother and Child

Zyma Amien - Paying Homage

Zyma, the overall winner, a 250 cm x 250 cm x 40 cm installation work of  art simplicity at its best. This was inspired by her mother and grandmother who have contributed and still continue to contribute a part of their lives to the labour force particularly in the textile industry of South Africa.
It looks into the lack of credit or recognition of the extremities that people in that industry undergo, the overalls were created [an outer garment by female workers]. She used gauze which is a translucent material used as bandage which was is metaphor for the physical pain i.e wounds and scars that the gain from sewing which if you thinking back in time so many people have contributed to the second most important NECESSITY after food. In the picture you will notice a shadow cast by the garments which had intentionally wanted us to see, because that is what society has casted over the workers.

I was sort of shy to ask if I could take a picture not to mention I stood next to throughout my time there and our walkabout [chuckles].

Oh guess what, I'll be giving people 5 vip tickets to a cruiseline trip to the Carribbean islands just for showing interest in my blog.

PSYCH!

Nishii Rishik Vaghmaria - Why so seriaas?

Siobhan Marie O'reagain - Things we miss

Zane W. Lange - Somatacized [Merit Award]

A deep fusion of nature and alchemy in physical form or rather artistic form, this is work of a inner reflection which I was really intrigued, because it is the purest form of creation which is to create with out a final idea not limited to one idea when creating but merely seeing a higher version of that creation. Under mental pressure to making a living or a 'break through' eventually turning an ongoing process of creation into an Award-winning creativie process.

It's crazy how you could fit in so much of history, spirituality and thoughts into one painting or sculpture.

I will be releasing pictures of everything else I could not fit in to this article on Instagram, Facebook and Twitter.
