City Central

By Coco

Can you coax your mind from its wandering?
Clear your vision enough to only see the light?

Can your mind conceive the purity that City Central Forum is restoring into Joburg inner city?

Since 1994 Johannesburg CBD slowly sunk into filth and rot due to over population lack of investment and major corporate company's closing shop to move to Sandton. Not until recently wherein City Central Forum, which is a collective of Property owners, architects, local business owners and creatives sat down to form a master think tank of Joburg. The aim of the forum is to re-develop the inner city through ownership of buildings with reconstructions made by architects, creative thinking, artistically apply the creative thought and local businesses to add the final face-lift.

The forum has recognised the difficulty there is in attracting potential growth into the city because of its current state, so they figured out what exactly is needed to save it.

Among some of the things mentioned these were some of the main points addressed:
  • By developing and renovating some buildings, it could provide more space for people to inhabit or live in. This allows people who work in the city to stay closer to work and evidently reduces human traffic and accommodation for college/varsity students.
  • There may be a possibility of creating living space for homeless people.
  • More rental space calls for more businesses to be opened thus more job opportunities.
  • Attraction for budding creatives who for example could open creative recreational centres to provide children with a constructive and broader exposure.

Although they're still in talks regarding further developments may be need and eventually allow public opinion.
