EcoActiv: Out the Box

By Coco

It is more than depressing and frustrating what we as a species have done to this planet, to back-up this statement I would like present to you what I find as relevant and vital information.

POPULATION

The increase in population has - without a doubt been the cause of all environmental problems, the current human population is 7 billion with a annual growth of 1.8%. This means at least 3 or more people are added on earth every second year.

HABITAT

The growth of population means we need more land and resources to support this increase, thus our natural habitats are directly affected. The shift or subdivision of habitats cause alterations to natural environments to a lesser or greater degree. This automatically affects biodiversity and ultimately  forces animals of all sorts to migrate, meanwhile humans exploit the land and ruin the soil causing lack of fruitful harvest. We (humans) are then forced to also migrate and repeat the sin.

AIR POLLUTION

Air pollution comes from cars, factories and many other gases that cause greenhouse effect. As many of us would know that this affects the layers covering earth, exposing it to climate change which also causes changes in how plants grow (e.g. intense sun exposure speeds up evaporation which makes the soil dry quicker causing the plants to die quicker leading to dry lands).

I believe the aforementioned points should paint a clear picture of where we are going as a society.

EcoActiv is an eco-friendly industrial company that has concocted a remedy for Mother-nature to relieve her of her duties. They have created products for household, commerce and civil society that will revolutionise and revitalise the ecosystem as well as rectify the actions of humanity, simply from  everyday recyclable -  products.

I recently had an insightful chat with Feroza Page about some of the products they had, but first I had to ask...

"How or what made get involved in EcoActiv?"

I thought to myself "how do I inspire the youth?" I then decided to exhibit the products at Nasrec Youth Expo which was about building today's youth, in order to reach the masses.

She gave me a run through of the vision she had for the youth and the products.

The current product (among many) is furniture made straight from CARDBOARD. The idea behind this that it recyclable, cost effective (extremely), durable and easy to move around.

Waste management channeled into different things such as electricity - replacing the use of coal and the likes, agricultural fertiliser that we use to grow crops, water (that you used after washing dishes) is taken and channeled into watering plants.

One of the main agenda's was to empower the communities that the youth come from through self-employment through thinking green.

Garden waste, is also part of the products used for re-growth of plants for your yard (compost).

Bio-degradable plastics like water bottles, this replaces of the need for petroleum with eco-friendly polystyrene.

Roof-ceiling, from non-perishable sand, this would be cost effective for construction company's that build houses.

Water-piping that does not require digging causing potholes.

Compressors which detect water leakages.

And finally, purchasable potholes repairs that communities may buy to patch up holes.

Feroza had further plans for her projects by starting a Green School, she intends in removing all forms of marginalisation's that our conventional school have created. In this school she plans on teaching students more ways to preserve nature and critical thinking.
