FNB ART FAIR : FOCUS AND OBSERVE

By Coco

Focus until you see a full picture.

Just as much as the motion-picture stimulates your brain, FNB Art Fair had similar effect on me.
Maximum exposure to fine art – literally, the sight of different colours, patterns, textures and sculptures was refreshing to see. It was quite an experience to go through. Personally I have never seen so much culture in one room... I even got lost while walking around, I battled to describe it for 3 days.

I was dumbfounded, because you can’t describe beauty – it’s formless, it’s beyond any ideal a human being can fathom, the word beauty doesn’t truly describe what – BEAUTY is. What I am trying to describe is Utopia – a perfectly balanced place free from the illusion of duality of African or European cultures and or historical differences.

The experience reminded me of a Buddhist sutra called a “Heart Sutra” which goes..
Gate, Gate, Paragate, Parsamagate.. Bodhisva
Which ultimately means one has to go beyond the ocean of existence until you see everything as one.

Do you get the picture? If not Focus until you see a full picture.

In this this article I’d like to speak about observance, observing the world and life in general. If the world or life stood still and you were the only who could walk around what would you do?

All I could do in that situation was observe – the greatest people of this century and their works right in front of me, I felt like Giorgio Vasari. I came to a realisation at that moment… all we can ever do is observe life and if you look close enough you see the universe in its material form, forever in motion, something we call history (a make up of events that builds up to create a significant event in time) and then you get to see it painted out or sculptured – it’s the only the thing that will remain far beyond our century – a record of our existence.
